How to Beat Winter Acne

Acne isn’t just for the summer heat. Some get the dreaded winter acne skin care. Many people struggle with breakouts during the winter, even when their skin feels dry. In fact, dry skin can cause acne by prompting the skin to produce more oil. That, plus the dry surface make a great places for pimple-causing bacteria to produce.

Beat those pimples back with these tips:

  • Consider what your skin needs. Depending on your skin type, you might still want a product with benzoyl peroxide. For those with drier skin, consider a moisturizer with Glycolic in it, which can help your face retain its moisture while removing dirt, oil, and bacteria.
  • Don’t be afraid to moisturize. While it feels counterintuitive, it’s still important to hydrate the skin.
  • Wear sunscreen! Sunscreen is important all year long. Be sure to use at least SPF 15 on your face, hands, and other exposed areas.
  • Skip the abrasives. While abrasive cleaners help exfoliate and wash away the grime in the summer, they can cause a lot of dryness during winter’s cold periods. Take a break from these for the season.
